There is much confusion surrounding the equivalent and substitute tubes in regards to 6L6. Much of it has to do with the fact that the tube has been around for so long, it has been revised and new versions have been made. Please be sure that you are ordering the correct tube. A 6L6G will not work in place of it's high-power successor, the 6L6GC.

When in doubt, you can always use a 6l6GC if an amplifier calls for any of the 6L6 types because the GC can handle the highest voltage. 

Metal 6L6, 6L6G & 6L6GA - Maximum dissipation of 19 watts and are interchangeable

6L6GB, 6L6WGB, 5881 - Maximum dissipation of 23/26 watts and are interchangeable

6L6GC - The standard among 6L6's. Maximum dissipation of 30 watts, generally interchangeable with KT66

KT66 - Maximum plate dissipation of 33 watts and is generally interchangeable with 6L6GC

7027A - a 6L6GC with a different pinout and is not interchangeable with anything
