The JJ EC803S (Long Plate 12AX7) is a high gain tube. The long plates make for higher gain and a warmer, fuller tone. They also increase the chance of microphonics so these are best used in guitar amplifiers or other high gain applications. Almost every sought after vintage tube has long plates so the tonal differences are worth the risk. These are comparable to the Telefunken ECC803S; the tube that JJ had in mind when they designed it.
