Will work in place of: 6550, KT88, 6550ATesting and/or Matching
At VIVA TUBES, all of our customers get the same high standard of testing and matching. Some sellers charge more for premium matches but we believe all of our customers should get the same level of quality and service.
Tubes are tested and/or matched at full operating voltage with regulated power supply on a Maxi Matcher tester for general mutual transconductance (Gm). In addition, power tubes are tested/matched by plate current (Ip) and preamp tubes are tested/matched by gain. Rectifier tubes will be tested for emissions on a calibrated military grade tube tester.
Our goal is to match within 5% with an upper limit of 15% (15% is the industry limit to consider a set).
Hand written test data included.
Note that we do offer a few models which are tested & matched at the factory. They will be matched by the same parameters (Ip & Gm) but to the manufacturer's standards. Factory testing will be indicated in the item title and description.
Guarantee
We offer a minimum 90 day guarantee covering functional defects - including noise unless otherwise stated. The guarantee period begins the day you receive your order.

Relax, and Float Downstream
Most of the tube recommendations for my LAB 12 Mighty amp are to use EL34s. After rereading a “Stereophile” review for my amp, the designer was quoted saying that 10-15% more output power could be obtained using 6550s. This amp is a fixed bias design and I wasn’t expecting much of an improvement since the stock amps are shipped with EL34s. However, these Tung-Sol 6550s were quite a surprise. The presentation is so much more relaxed, the imaging more palpable, rounded with dimension and body. The sound is so seductive that it is difficult to do any reading while listening. The sound is so compelling it causes me to look up from my book to admire the sound. And that is with the amp switched in UL configuration. In the triode setting? Up the seduction factor by 3. I love the vintage shape of the glass bottles giving the amp an old-timey look. They don’t provide much of a light show glow in the dark, however. Previously, trying other tubes left me feeling that I was still missing something and that maybe I needed to get a new external DAC for my Aurender A 10. After plugging in the Tung-Sol 6550s? Fuggeddabout gettin’ a new DAC! I’m gettin’ another order of them to go!
