Description

New Plate Current Matched Quad of Electro-Harmonix 6CA7 (EL34) Fat Bottle Vacuum Tubes

This classic big bottle 6CA7 is a tetrode rather than a pentode like the EL34. Both tubes are interchangeable but many prefer the rich and detailed sound of a tetrode to a pentode.

Will work in place of: 6CA7EH, 6CA7, EL34, EL34B

Testing and/or Matching

At VIVA TUBES, all of our customers get the same high standard of testing and matching. Some sellers charge more for premium matches but we believe all of our customers should get the same level of quality and service.

Tubes are tested and/or matched at full operating voltage with regulated power supply on a Maxi Matcher tester for general mutual transconductance (Gm). In addition, power tubes are tested/matched by plate current (Ip) and preamp tubes are tested/matched by gain. Rectifier tubes will be tested for emissions on a calibrated military grade tube tester.

Our goal is to match within 5% with an upper limit of 15% (15% is the industry limit to consider a set).

Hand written test data included.

Note that we do offer a few models which are tested & matched at the factory. They will be matched by the same parameters (Ip & Gm) but to the manufacturer's standards. Factory testing will be indicated in the item title and description.

Guarantee

We offer a minimum 90 day guarantee covering functional defects - including noise unless otherwise stated. The guarantee period begins the day you receive your order.

An excellent tube for the Willsenton R8

Posted by Jon Shimamoto on 8th Feb 2024

I have been tube rolling my Willsenton R8 for the past year. These tubes are an excellent value for the price and sound great. Very musical with some bottom end, a hybrid between the EL34 and KT88. This tube is a toss-up with the Mullard EL34s, depending on your setup.

    Awesome alternative for Willsenton r8

Posted by Jeff on 12th Sep 2022

I decided to try this power tube out in my Willsenton r8. I previously tried Psvane EL34 which were just a bit flat on my speakers. I then tried Mullard EL34 reissues but these were just not working for my speakers. These 6CA7 were a surprise alternative to these previous choices but I was intrigued by online reviews that compared them to NOS tubes. I will be keeping these in. Not only do they sound great, they look great as well. In my opinion so far these are the best EL34 mode tubes for the Willsenton r8 for a great price. I plan on kt88 comparison soon and I’ll be back to Vivatubes to get them!

    Awesome Power Tubes!

Posted by Robert Peterson on 12th Oct 2021

I've had these power tubes since December 2020 and have been rolling them in and out of my Black Ice Audio 3502S Integrated Amplifier. I don't recall why I took them out last time, maybe because I had another set of tubes I wanted to try out. I just had some JJ KT77's in the amp for a couple of weeks and recalled that I really liked the sound of the EH 6CA7's so I rolled them back in. Now that I'm using NOS RCA 12AX7 preamp tubes and NOS Mullard CV4204 driver tubes, the amp absolutely sings! Monster bass, huge sound stage and super clarity across the audio spectrum. I've heard some people say these tubes are bit too much like solid state for their taste. I don't find that to be the case whatsoever. They're like supercharged EL34's. These EH 6CA7's will be in my amp for the foreseeable future.

    Jeffrey Fayle is right!

I do not usual make any purchase based in one review by a complete stranger but glad I did this once. I have a Black Ice Fusion 3502. Been using SED EL34 Winged C’s. Excellent tube and sound but wanted to do a little tube rolling without breaking the bank and after pursuing the VivaTube site for a bit I felt Jeffrey’s review was sincere and it was within my budget. So glad I did. These tubes are far from being broke in but I can already appreciate the boost to the bottom end. Soundstage seems excellent. The Winged C’s are a very popular, pricey tube so I’m not installing these Fat Bottles after some low rent junk tubes and I’m still impressed! Looking forward to breaking them in. This was also my first purchase from VivaTubes. Another great impression! Won’t be my last purchase from these folks. My only gripe is that the cool logo is on the ‘backside’ of the tube and the way sockets are.....they only face one way. Ahh well, if that’s my only complaint it’s a great set of power tubes for under $80! What a bargain! Thanks VivaTubes and thanks for you review Jeff! P.S. Hey VivaTubes, how about the ability to post pics with comments? I love to look!

EH 6CA7EH Fat Bottle in Prima Luna EVO 100

Posted by Jeffrey Fayle on 19th Feb 2021

I purchased a matched quad of these at Viva for use in my PrimaLuna EVO 100 hi-fi power amp. The PrimaLuna has adaptive autobias allowing the use of a wide variety of power tubes. I've been trying different power tubes looking for "the one" for my tastes. Until now, my favorites had been the GL and JJ KT77's. I think I've found a new favorite! These 6CA7's sound beautiful. Rich bass with good weight, exquisite midrange detail and body, and open, defined highs. Love the sound of these in my amp. Obviously, YMMV based on your personal preferences and the equipment you are using, but in my setup these sound great - AND they are a bargain!!!(sshhh!)
